Help Needed for family in fatal accident in Alexandria

Taken from the neighborhood list serves:

I am sure many of you have heard about the tragic death of Brian Hernandez Chavez this past Sunday. He was only 8 years old. He and his mother were walking from thier apt to Landmark Mall in the middle of the day when a drunk driver hit them both. Brian was pronouced dead at the scene and mom is still in the hospital with almost every bone from the waist down broken. This family is in DESPERATE need of financial assistance. They need help paying for mom's medical bills (which will be in the many thousands as she will be in a wheelchair for months) and replacing her income, as well as funeral and other general expenses. PLEASE everyone click on the link and give anything you can even if it is $5. I have been working directly with the family and I know their need is great. This tragedy was so needless and the family is in pieces (of course). EVERY PENNY COUNTS!!!

Proposed changes in definition of Autism

From Social Media Moms

As a member of SocialMoms who cares about special needs, we wanted to alert you to a special media opportunity with ABC World News tonight. Please review the information below and forward this to someone you think would be interested in commenting for the program. More about the topic and the producer's request is below -- special preference will be given to people in the greater NYC area:

Proposed changes in the definition of autism would sharply reduce the skyrocketing rate at which the disorder is diagnosed and might make it harder for many people who would no longer meet the criteria to get health, educational and social services, a new analysis suggests. ABC World News is looking to hear from parents of children in the US whose children have been diagnosed with autism or a related discorder, but under the new guidelines would not be. The most likely population affected are those with a high functioning child with Aspergers.

If you would care to comment, please let the producer know where they can reach you and a bit about your views on the proposed changes. Please feel free to forward this alert to friends or followers. The deadline 1/20/2011 at 2 p.m. EST. Thanks!
