Absentee Voting Deadlines for June 12 Democratic and Republican Primaries

On Tuesday, June 12, there will be a Democratic Primary for U.S. House of Representatives and Alexandria City Council and a Republican Pmary for U.S. Senate. There is no party registration in Virginia, however, voters may only vote in one pimary and are required to express their political party ballot choice. Alexandrians who qualify to vote absentee for this election may request an absentee ballot to be mailed to them, or they may cast an absentee ballot in person.
Absentee Voting By MailThe deadline to submit an application to have an absentee ballot sent by mail is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5
Absentee ballots obtained by mail must be received by the Voter Registration Office on or before Election Day, Tuesday, June 12
Absentee Voting in Person
The deadline for casting an absentee ballot in person is Saturday, June 9, at 5 p.m
In-person absentee voting hours are Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours on the following days:
- Thursday, May 31 from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Monday, June 4 from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, June 5 from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Away on business, vacation, active military service, or at school.
- Working and commuting for 11 or more hours between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Election Day.
- A "first responder" (firefighter, law enforcement, emergency medical technician).
- Physically unable to go to the polls, or a primary caregiver for a family member who is ill.

To cast an absentee ballot in-person, go to the Alexandria Voter Registration Office at 132 N. Royal St., Suite 100, Alexandria, Virginia 22314.. Absentee ballot applications are available online from alexandriava.gov/Elections, or by contacting the Alexandria Voter Registration Office at 703.746.4050 703.746.4050 . Completed absentee applications can be submitted by mail to the Voter Registration Office at the address below. They may also submitted in-person, by fax (703.838.6449), or by scanned email attachment to Anna Leider,anna.leider@alexandriava.gov. Please be sure to indicate in which Primary you wish to vote.
