Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Launches Enhanced Tree Maintenance Program
For the next few months, residents will see increased activity along many City streets associated with the implementation of the City’s Urban Forestry Master Plan. The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities (RPCA) is launching a pro-active tree maintenance program to enhance its efforts to prune dead or broken limbs from trees, and to remove hazardous trees where necessary. Roadways covered by this work plan include King Street, Commonwealth Ave., Mt. Vernon Ave., U.S. Route 1, Washington St., and several thoroughfares in Warwick Village. Overhanging limbs and leaning trees along Van Dorn S. and Timber Branch Parkway to receive trimming.
Over one thousand trees will receive care through this effort. RPCA is intensifying its tree maintenance program in order to work toward implementation of the recommendations of the Urban Forestry Master Plan, to reduce the backlog of tree-related work orders, and to minimize damage that could result from future storm events. The goal is to identify and correct potential problems ahead of time, in order to reduce damages and calls for emergency service.
In addition to the focused tree maintenance efforts along specific roadways, RPCA will continue to respond to tree related service requests from throughout the City. For more information, contact John Noelle at 703.746.5499 or john.noelle@alexandriava.gov.
