Assistant Director, The Scholarship
Fund of Alexandria
Opportunity: The
Scholarship Fund of Alexandria (SFA) seeks an energetic, enthusiastic
individual committed to SFA’s mission.
The qualified applicant will be eager to support Alexandria
high school students obtain the financial aid information and college
scholarships that will help them access higher education. This position is full-time, year-round and
provides an opportunity to work in a small, dynamic, mission-driven public

essential! The Assistant Director
reports to the Executive Director.
Description: The Assistant Director will serve as the Program Director to the
Scholarship Program, overseeing the application, awarding, tracking and renewal
of scholarships. The Assistant Director
also evaluates program effectiveness; assists students and their families with
financial aid advising; manages the donor software database; supports outreach
and communication through social media outlets; and supports fundraising
activities.
Key Responsibilities of Assistant Director
Directs the Scholarship Program: Serves as program director to design, produce,
and administer the scholarship application process including on-line
application, promotional materials, and supplemental application
materials. Tracks collection and
verification of application materials and creates database to facilitate the
selection process by the program committee of the Board of Trustees. Maintains systems to track donors, students and other
pertinent information for the purpose of providing accurate financial and
program records for evaluation and audit.
Provides high-quality programmatic management of
scholarships, including but not limited to clear and accurate outreach and communication
to students, parents, and other key stakeholders; and timely award of new
scholarships and renewals.
Collects
data from student records, National Student Clearinghouse, ACPS and other
sources to record, report and analyze data required for meaningful program
evaluation and recommendations for improvement.
Financial Aid Advising: Works with the Executive Director, the College
Adviser, and ACPS staff to develop printed materials, on-line resources, and
workshops to deliver financial aid advising resources to ACPS students to
assist them in understanding and accessing maximum federal, state, and private
financial aid. Provides direct delivery
of financial aid advising to students and/or parents on a daily basis.
Social Media Outreach and Evaluation: Provides outreach via social media platforms to
inform and engage key stakeholders.
Evaluates effectiveness of engagement activities and makes
recommendations for improvement.
Database Manager: Oversees procedures and quality control for SFA’s
Sage Fundraising 50 donor database to support effective fundraising campaigns
and student tracking for program evaluation. Coordinates and reconciles financial
records with bookkeeper and reconciles donor database with QuickBooks. Maintains systems to
track donors, students and other pertinent information for the purpose of
providing accurate financial and program records for evaluation and audit.
Fundraising: Supports the Executive
Director and Board of Trustees in organizing and implementing successful
fundraising events such as the annual Telethon and Spring Gala.
Other duties as Assigned: Assists
the SFA Board, the Executive Director, and ACPS Staff to promote the mission
and objectives of the Scholarship Fund in the community.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in
relevant area;
Superior interpersonal
skills, with experience working with people of varied backgrounds and cultures;
Strong communications
skills, both verbal and written (Spanish language fluency a plus);
Superior organizational
skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and
balance competing priorities;
Strong attention to detail
and accuracy;
Experience with community
engagement, including the ability to leverage social media tools to provide
outreach to stakeholders;
Knowledge of scholarship
or grant management;
Experience
and knowledge of the college financial aid process, along with Federal and
other college financial resources;
Knowledge of donor
management software, such as SageFundraising 50;
Knowledge of accounting
software, such as Quickbooks;
Experience with database management,
including the ability to use spreadsheet software such as Excel to produce
reports;
Understanding of and
commitment to maintaining confidential information;
Comfort with engaging and
supervising volunteers;
Willingness to support
fundraising activities;
Ability to act on behalf
of the Executive Director in her absence; and
Willingness to perform
other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the organization.
Commitment: This is a full-time, year
round position with a salary in the $40-50s range, depending on experience.
