FROM THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA:
Alexandria police conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the 5700 block of Duke Street to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers from 10:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 16, to 6:00 A.M. on Sunday, July 17. Vehicles were stopped and drivers were checked to assure that their abilities to drive had not been impaired by alcohol or drugs.
During the checkpoint, two arrests were made for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and 13 summonses were issued for miscellaneous traffic offenses.
Six Alexandria police officers, two parking enforcement officers, one emergency communications technician and two Alexandria Sheriff’s deputies participated in the checkpoint
