Breast Cancer Memorial Fund Created to Honor Walk's Founder

For the last 20 years, The Walk to Fight Breast Cancer has been monumental in providing mammograms and other diagnostic screening for Alexandria women who are uninsured or not adequately insured. To honor the Walk’s founder, Vola Lawson, who passed away in December 2013, the Walk will be renamed. A fund has been created in her memory, the Vola Lawson Breast Cancer Memorial Fund.

Since its inception in 1994, the Walk has helped over 8,000 uninsured Alexandria women receive free mammograms and other diagnostic screenings. Over the last several years, Walk Fund usage has increased while donations have seen a decrease, resulting in the Fund’s near depletion. This year, the Vola Lawson Breast Cancer Fund will participate in ACTS Spring2Action Giving Day, taking place Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Please help to keep the memory of Vola and her vision alive. The Walk to Fight Breast Cancer Set for October 26

Lace up your tennis shoes and get ready to participate in the 20th Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer on Saturday, October 26, at 8 a.m. The Walk is jointly sponsored by the City of Alexandria and the Inova Alexandria Hospital Foundation.  Walkers can choose from a 1.5K/3.5K/5K walk or run, and the Walk route is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. The Walk will begin and end at the Patent and Trademark Office, located at 600 Dulany Street in Alexandria.  

Registration fee is $30 for adults and $15 for children if registered by October 18. On-site registration will cost $40. Registration can be completed online using electronic check payment or credit card at www.alexcancerwalk.com. All proceeds from the Walk support the Alexandria Breast Cancer Walk Fund, which has helped over 8,000 uninsured Alexandria women receive free mammograms and other diagnostic screenings since its inception in 1994.

Join the Alexandria Walk to Fight Breast Cancer

Join in the 18^th Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer and help provide mammograms and other diagnostic screenings for uninsured women in Alexandria. The Walk will take place on Saturday, October 22 at 8 a.m. Parking, registration, the kickoff and the finish line will be at the AMC Hoffman Center Theaters on 206 Swamp Fox Road off of Eisenhower Avenue.  Walkers can choose from a 1.5K/3.5K/5K walk or run, and the route is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.

 Registration is $30 for adults and $15 for children aged 2-12 when signing up by October 20. Register at www.alexcancerwalk.com. On-site registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the fee is $40.

The 18th Annual Alexandria Walk to Fight Breast Cancer

The WALK TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER will be held on Saturday, October 22nd.
This event supports the Breast Cancer Walk Fund for Early Detection at INOVA Alexandria Hospital.
The fund supports free mammograms and other diagnostic screenings for Alexandria women who don't have insurance and otherwise couldn't afford medical cares.

This is a 1.5k, 3.5k or 5k walk/run, whatever you want to do.  And this WALK is for the entire family - strollers, dogs, kids are welcome!


Registration information: 

$30 for adults, if registering before 10/20, $40 after 10/20.
$15 for children ages 2-12

Women Mean Business of Alexandria's Annual Silent Auction for Breast Cancer

Women Mean Business in Alexandria will hold their Annual Silent Auction on Friday, September 23rd,  from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Old Town. 


This year, proceeds raised by the Silent Auction will benefit the Alexandria Breast Cancer Surgical Fund.  The Surgical Fund is a new fund established as a public/private partnership between the City of Alexandria and Inova Alexandria Hospital.  The fund will pay for surgical and anesthesiology expenses  for Alexandria women who are uninsured and have no means to pay for breast cancer surgery (lumpectomies and mastectomies).

There will be beautiful flowers, delicious food and wine, and fabulous items ranging from original art to jewelry to oriental rugs and even sailing cruises on the Chesapeake and fitness packages. 
All of the donated items come from local, Alexandria, businesses and supporters. 
Auction items are in a wide range of prices so that everyone can bid, and win.

The 7th Annual Silent Auction Event to Benefit Alexandria's Breast Cancer Surgical Fund

• Since 2005, Women Mean Business has hosted the Walk to Fight Breast Cancer Silent Auction that benefitted the Walk Fund.  To date, Women Mean Business has raised over $63,500 for the Alexandria's Walk To Fight Breast Cancer.  This year the proceeds will benefit the ABCSF, Alexandria's Breast Cancer Surgical Fund.  The funds raised will provide surgical treatment for Alexandria residents who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are uninsured or underinsured. 

• The Women Mean Business Silent Auction will be held at The Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Alexandria-Historic District, 625 First St, Alexandria, VA 22314 on Friday, September 23, 2011, from 6-8 

  The event includes a silent auction, live auction and a raffle for an evening at the Kennedy Center.  Appetizers, dessert, wine and beer are included in the admission price.

  Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door.
