SUPERINTENDENT APPOINTS NEW SCHOOL LEADERS
Alexandria Va. — Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Superintendent Morton Sherman is pleased to announce that Ingrid F. Bynum has been appointed as the new principal of Patrick Henry Elementary School, serving nearly 550 students. Bynum, an experienced teacher and administrator, brings a vast knowledge of working with diverse students and collaborating with the community to obtain positive outcomes for kids.
Bynum taught for eight years. She is fluent in both French and Spanish. Since 2009, she has worked as a principal in Prince George’s County, Md., where she has led both a Title I elementary school and a PreK-8 school.
“Ingrid engaged the entire school community and significantly improved academic achievement at the schools under her leadership,” Dr. Sherman said. “She is dedicated to ensuring that all students at her school enjoy the experience of learning while achieving at high levels.”
Bynum earned her Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Regent University and a Bachelor’s Degree in French from the University of Maryland at College Park. Bynum is originally from Richmond, Va. She currently resides with her family in Alexandria.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to serve our ninth-grade students and families in this capacity,” Schafer said. “I love being an educator and working with children of all ages, and look forward to working with our high school students and their families.”
“The Minnie Howard Campus is fortunate to have Sara in this leadership role,” Dr. Sherman said. She is a compassionate educator who engages her families and never gives up on a child.”
Schafer earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from George Mason University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Valley City State University.
