Police investigate bank robberies

FROM THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA: Alexandria Police Investigate One Attempted Bank Robbery and One Bank Robbery in Two Days Alexandria Police are investigating an attempted bank robbery that occurred Friday, June 8 at the BB&T Bank located at 233 South Van Dorn Street and a bank robbery that occurred this morning at the BB&T Bank located at 300 South Washington Street. At approximately 1:17 p.m. on Friday, June 8, two suspects entered the lobby of the BB&T at 233 South Van Dorn Street.  One of the suspects approached a teller and demanded cash.  The teller went to retrieve the cash.  However, both suspects fled the bank before receiving any cash. The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male, late teens to early 20’s, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with tan colored shorts.  The second suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20’s, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. Both suspects were last seen running south through the parking lot of Van Dorn Plaza towards the rear of Safeway. At approximately 10:30 a.m. this morning, a suspect entered the BB&T Bank located at 300 South Washington Street and approached a teller.  The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money.  The teller relinquished an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled the bank.  Nobody was injured during the robbery. The suspect is described as a black male in his late 30’s to early 40’s, wearing a light blue button down shirt, blue jeans and a dark baseball cap. The suspect was last seen possibly entering a dark vehicle that was parked in the 700 block of Duke Street.
