America Recycles Day

America Recycles Day is Thursday, November 15

Join thousands of Americans by pledging to recycle more on Thursday, November 15.  As part of the City’s Eco-City Alexandria initiative, the City strives to continue increasing residential and commercial recycling rates. 

How are you recycling more? Make the pledge online or take part in two local events on Saturday, November 17:  
  • Paper Shredding Event Free paper shredding is available to residents from 9 am – 1 pm, located at 2900 Business Center Drive (parking lot).
  • Mercury Disposal Event
    A mercury disposal event will take place from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm at the City’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facility, located at 3224 Colvin Street.Covanta Energy will distribute $5 gift cards to all City residents who turn in mercury containing devices; such as thermostats, thermometers, sphygmomanometers, manometers, barometers, and hygrometers, as well as liquid mercury.
