Alexandria Beautification Commission Seeks Nominations for the 2012 Alexandria Beautification Awards

  • Awards recognize City residents, organizations, and businesses for their efforts in contributing to the beautification of City neighborhoods and public vistas with landscaping and aesthetic design.
  • The nomination deadline is Sunday, May 13.

The City of Alexandria’s Beautification Commission is accepting nominations for the 2012 Alexandria Beautification Awards. The awards program recognizes City residents, organizations, and businesses for their efforts in contributing to the beautification of City neighborhoods and public vistas with landscaping and aesthetic design.
Nominations must be received by Friday, May 11.  Nomination forms are available athttp://alexandriava.gov/Beautification.

Beautification Awards are presented in four categories: Residential, Commercial, Public, and Service. Nominations are judged on the use of texture, color, plant material, neighborhood context, marked improvements, and overall appearance. Nominated properties must be visible from the public right-of-way. Award winners will be recognized at the Beautification Awards Ceremony this September.

The Alexandria Beautification Commission is a 12-member volunteer board with members nominated and approved by the City Council for two-year terms. The Commission represents residents' values in City beautification matters and coordinates projects to encourage and achieve beautification.
