New Annual Objectives that replace Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in VA- Public Comment

On June 29., 2012, Virginia was granted a waiver from certain provisions of NCLB.  Yesterday, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released a Superintendent’s Memo regarding the new annual benchmarks for raising achievement in the commonwealth’s lowest-performing schools. The new annual objectives in reading and mathematics replace the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets schools were previously required to meet under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
There is public comment during tomorrow’s Board of Education meeting if any parents or professionals would like to submit comment on the plan.   See below for specifics:
